How do I change my password?

Passwords are personal

PatientsLikeMe will never ask for your password, and you should never share your password with anyone. Only you can change and see your password:

• If you are logged out of the site, head to our password reset page here for further instructions:
  • https://www.patientslikeme.com/users/password/new 
• If you are logged into the site, click on Account on the top right of the page. You can then select Password and linked accounts from the menu bar on the left-hand side of the page. 

Password Requirements on PLM

Passwords on PatientsLikeMe must be at least 8 characters long and include at least two of the following:

• an uppercase letter
• lowercase letter
• number or special character

Strong passwords 

Passwords are your first and best line of defense. You should use different passwords, especially on sites that have sensitive information about you. A good way to create a password is to take a phrase you can remember then use the first letter of each word and substitute a number or symbol in somewhere. For example:

a. The phrase “I need a really good password to protect my account.”

b. Becomes “Inargptpma”

c. Then substitute to get “Inargp2pma”

Manage your passwords

We also suggest trying password manager like 1Password or LastPass. These tools allow you to remember a single strong password to access the tool, then the tool provides and stores strong unique passwords for each site you visit.

Do not share your password with anyone - including PatientsLikeMe staff. When you have trouble logging in or would like to change your password, the PatientsLikeMe site has functionality, linked above, that helps you get what you need while keeping your password secret. PatientsLikeMe will never ask you for your password. If anyone asks, notify a community moderator immediately.

If you believe your password has been compromised in any way, change it immediately.
