What conditions can I find a healthcare provider for?
The provider directory on PatientsLikeMe connects patients with licensed mental health social workers, counselors, and therapists.
What's the difference between a social worker, counselor, and therapist?
Social workers, therapists and counselors are all trained to provide individuals with help to improve their lives and mental health situation. The biggest difference between these three professionals is their approach and focus towards helping you to achieve those goals.
- Social Workers: Because social work is broader as a field, a social worker can better connect you to community resources and programming and help with case work management and issues outside of talk therapy.
- Counselors: Tends to focus on individual sessions and the personal development of coping skills.
- Therapists: Focuses on psychological diagnoses and specific areas of a person’s life, such as professional or personal circumstances. Therapeutic interventions are informed by formal psychological diagnoses.
All three of these professionals are trained to help individuals with personal issues in a remote, talk-therapy setting. It is just up to you, which style will fit you best!
Why can’t I find my insurance company in the search options?
The filters on the left side of the screen adjust based on your selections. You should first select your state. If your insurance company doesn’t appear as an option in filters, it is because there aren’t any providers available in the selected state who take that insurance.
Can I book with an out-of-state provider?
Please select the state you live in prior to selecting a provider, this will filter providers to only show providers licensed in your state. Appointments booked with providers outside of the state you reside in will be cancelled.
